Updated Upper with GORE-TEX Invisible Fit
The new and updated upper of the Wave Ibuki 5 GORE-TEX is highly breathable and waterproof. A GORE-TEX Invisible Fit lining swathes the foot in well-ventilated weather protection. It allows built-up heat and vapour to escape whilst external moisture is sealed out to keep feet dry from the inside out. This means you can take on the trail no matter the weather, and you can stay focused on the path ahead without the unpleasantness of damp feet. Synthetic overlays on the toe and up the side provide structure, support and durability. They protect your feet and the shoes themselves from any knocks and scrapes on the trail and help to create a more locked-in fit. They are complemented by the traditional lacing system which allows you to adjust the fit with ease and anchor the shoe to your foot.
Mizuno Wave Midsole
The midsole is constructed in Mizuno's signature nature-inspired wave structure for maximum cushioning and stability. The Wave prevents partial deformation and provides dynamic support to stabilise and guide the foot forward, whilst Mizuno ENERZY foam in the heel offers softness underfoot to attenuate shock and convert it into energy return. This helps you to run further, and faster, without energy loss. This is combined with U4ic, an extremely lightweight midsole compound that provides high comfort and performance. The combination of foams helps shave down weight and allows you to get the best of both worlds. Underfoot plushness is provided by the removable insock, it provides an extra layer of cushioning and can be taken out should you wish to minimise weight even further.
X10 Outsole
The outsole is constructed from highly durable X10 rubber. It is a carbon rubber that allows for longer wear in high-impact areas and gives more traction at the heel strike. This is great for the trail as it resists damage across scrubby terrain. It forms a solid bond with the ground beneath, assisting in confident push-offs, turns and breaking. The multi-directional lugs bite into the earth to offer advanced grip in wet conditions.
