It features a winter-tuned Merrell sticky rubber outsole that optimises traction in cold weather surface conditions.
Waterproof Upper
Constructed using a leather upper and teamed with a waterproof membrane and mesh lining, the Thermo Akita Walking Boots offer reliable protection and durability whilst remaining breathable. Engineered with a waterproof membrane, the Akita offers complete waterproof performance and exceptional breathability; step confidently and comfortably through wet and muddy terrain as the waterproof membrane allows water vapour to escape without letting water droplets in. As well as waterproof protection, these Merrell Walking Boots feature 200 grams of lightweight, low-volume insulation that helps to keep you feeling comfortable on the trail in cooler temperatures. This insulation works alongside a fleece collar that feels soft against the skin. A gusseted tongue keeps out debris for ensured comfort whilst the traditional lace closure system provides a secure fit locking the foot into the shoe and anchoring to the midsole to reduce in-shoe slippage for quick descents and sharp turns. The Akita Boots also feature a gaiter D-ring that allows you to easily attach a gaiter for additional protection from the debris on the trail.
Lightweight EVA Midsole
The midsole has been constructed using different technologies to ensure long-lasting comfort and increased cushioning. EVA within the midsole offers supreme cushioning and support to key areas like the arch and heel, holding the foot securely in place for a smoother transition and wear. By supporting these key areas of the foot, the midsole material can also help to offer enough support to help prevent discomfort and possible injury. A Merrell Air Cushion also features in the midsole to provide shock absorption and stability. The Air Cushion features in the heel to reduce stress on the foot with each step; this, in turn, lessens the impact during heel strikes and helps to cradle the heel to maintain proper alignment. Completing the midsole is a Kinetic Fit BASE removable insole that provides flexible support for all-day wear. Contoured to your foot, the insole provides flexible intuitive support for connected and protected movements. Designed to gently support the foot in key areas of the foot to encourage muscles to stay in a relaxed athletic position helping to reduce fatigue.
