Keen Dry Upper
To guarantee complete protection from the weather and damp conditions, the Boots use Keen Dry to seal moisture out. This membrane surrounds the upper, acting as a block to prevent any droplets of water from entering and causing discomfort to the feet. Additionally, this membrane will still allow air to flow in and out constantly, which means that you won't have a build-up of air within the boots that is unable to escape. By having a shoe that will regularly pump air out and allow fresher air in, this will ensure that you will always feel comfortable. Keen have also used their Bellows Flex technology in the upper of the boot. This addition to the upper reduces the energy consumption on each step by 60%. This means that your hike will feel a lot easier, with fewer distractions and discomforts from the upper, making it feel a lot more enjoyable. The tough construction of the boots, especially surrounding vulnerable areas of the feet like the toes and the heel have thick material surrounding it. This will mean that all shocks are attenuated instantly, preventing them from reaching the foot and potentially causing injuries. The boots are treated with a coating that is based on natural probiotics that block the growth of odour-causing microbes. This will mean that you will always feel and smell fresh. The upper also includes recycled P.E.T plastic webbing as well as PFC-Free materials, making the boots more sustainable and environmentally friendly. The upper also uses leather sourced from LWG-affiliated tanneries, ensuring that it is produced in a sustainable manner. A lacing system with eyelets runs all the way up the foot, guaranteeing a secure fit. The upper is completed with a padded tongue that will prevent dirt and debris from entering, whilst it will also sit comfortably on the ankle.
Compressed EVA Midsole
Constructed using an EVA midsole, the Ridge Flex provides comfortable cushioning that keeps you going all day long. The dual-density EVA provides significant cushioning and comfort to help improve the level of your performance so you can stay at your optimum level, for longer. Holding excellent cushioning abilities, the midsole absorbs shocks as you move throughout the gait cycle providing resilient cushioning and reducing the risks of potential injury. A removable dual-density EVA insole also features within the midsole to provide added cushioning and support. The insole sits comfortably under the foot and can be easily removed if you'd prefer not to use it. Completing the midsole is an internal shank which delivers lightweight support and reduces the chance of ankle rolling or injury by providing a bit more stability to the foot whilst on of rough terrain.
Keen All.Terrain Outsole
Providing ultimate, all-around protection, the Ridge Flex features a Keen All. Terrain rubber outsole. The durable rubber provides a strong grip on the most challenging terrain; it works to protect itself from damage, and protect users from losing control and slipping. It is also highly durable meaning no matter what you throw at it, the Ridge Flex will perform time and time again. This high traction rubber promotes grip on a multitude of surfaces while delivering the durability you need to go the distance. Completing the outsole are multi-directional lugs which provide meaningful traction on tough terrain. The lugs dig into the ground, anchoring you in place. This will also benefit you by acting as a solid base for you to push off from when taking a stride, as well as digging into the ground when braking and changing direction.
