The GRIGRI is a belay device with assisted braking designed for belaying both in the gym and at the crag. Compact and lightweight, it can be used with single ropes from 8.5 to 11 mm.

Built for multi-purpose use, the Petzl Grigri Belay Device can be used for both gym and crag climbing. Like may belay devices, the Petzl Grigri uses standard belay techniques for feeding slack and catching falls so you'll always have to keep a hand on the brake side of the rope. The Grigri also boasts assisted braking to help you stop when you begin to fall. When you lose your footing and begin to fall, the device pivots on the carabiner, tightens the rope, pinches the cam and brakes the rope; bringing you to a stop. (Holding the brake side of the rope helps engage the cam; therefore, it is important to always hold the brake side of the rope.) Compatible with a broad range of single rope diameters, the Grigri can be used with 8.5 to 11mm ropes and optimized for 8.9 to 10.5mm ropes plus, rope installation diagrams have been engraved on both the interior and exterior of the device to help you stay safely attached. An ergonomic handle allows you to easily unblock the rope and lower somebody down whilst the easily controlled progressive rope feed provides a smooth and comfortable descent. The Petzl Grigri Belay Device is simple to use for belaying both lead or top-rope climber and it is lightweight, compact and durable for easy carrying.
